Getting Started
Random Selector is a decision-making app powered by true randomness. Create a list, add your items, and randomise. You can build unlimited lists for every part of your life — meals, movies, chores, weekends, games — each with unlimited items.
Enter a new list name and tap the + button on the home screen, then start adding items. Each item can have a name, optional sub-items, and a weight. Once you have at least two items, you're ready to randomise.
Zero limits. Create as many lists as you want with as many items as you need — 2 options or 2,000.
Features
Weights let you skew the randomness deliberately. An item with weight 3 is three times as likely to be selected as one with weight 1. Adjust the weights at any time by tapping the item.
Hold down on an item to Disable it, you can specify how long to disable it for, in hours or days! Disabled items appear greyed out and are excluded from selections until you re-enable them. Great for skipping meals you don't fancy or a chore you've done recently.
Sub-items nest choices inside an item. If the main spin picks "Italian Food", a second spin will immediately choose from your Italian options (pizza, pasta, risotto…). Tap any item and select Add Sub-item.
Yes! Tap the item, then select the rename icon. You can also edit the weight, disable it, add sub-items, or delete it from this menu.
Most apps use pseudo-random generators that follow predictable mathematical cycles. True Random uses a cryptographically secure random source — genuinely unpredictable, with no hidden patterns. You can toggle this in the menu.
Every selection is automatically logged. Head to the Stats tab to see pick frequencies, streaks, total spins per list, and timeline charts.
Turning on Surprise Mode enables a small chance for a random item to be picked from the example list regardless of what list is currently active. Turn it on to be inspired to try something different.

Yes! Random Selector is perfect for breaking decision paralysis. Create lists for meals, activities, date night ideas, weekend plans, movies to watch, or music to listen to. Leave it up to random.
Add each entrant's name as an item, set their weight to match how many tickets they bought, then spin once. The stats log provides a transparent, shareable record of the draw — perfect for proving fairness to your audience.
Absolutely! Use it for fair cold-calling, assigning group roles, picking exercise partners, or running quiz draws. Because every selection is logged, you can verify over a full term that each student was called on equally.
Loads! Pick who goes first in a board game, spin for party forfeits, assign Secret Santa pairings, settle debates instantly, or choose the next song. Pass the phone around for quick, unbiased decisions.
Troubleshooting
Lists are stored locally on your device. If the app was deleted or its data cleared, the list cannot be recovered.
You can delete the example list whenever you want. If you ever want it back, click on the surprise option in the menu to put it back on the home page.
Unfortunately at this time you cannot export or transfer your lists.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information may be collected and how it is used.

01 Overview

This privacy policy applies to the Random Selector app (referred to as "Application") for mobile devices, created by Chalice (referred to as "Service Provider") as a free service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".

Random Selector is designed to function primarily on your device. Your lists, items, and selection history are stored locally and are never accessed by us. However, as with any mobile application, certain technical data may be collected automatically by the underlying platform infrastructure (such as Expo, Apple, or Google) when you use the app. This policy covers all such data collection transparently.

02 Information Collection and Use

The Application may collect certain information automatically when you download and use it. This information may include:

  • Your device's Internet Protocol (IP) address
  • The pages or screens of the Application you visit, and the time and date of your visit
  • The time spent on the Application
  • The operating system you use on your mobile device

Your lists, items, weights, and selection statistics are stored exclusively on your device. The Service Provider does not have access to this content.

The Application does not gather precise information about the location of your mobile device. However, approximate geographical location may be inferred from your IP address by the underlying platform infrastructure and may be used for:

  • Analytics and improvements — aggregated and anonymised data helps identify trends and improve the overall performance of the Application.
  • Third-party services — anonymised data may periodically be transmitted to external services to assist in improving the Application.

The Service Provider may use automatically collected information to contact you from time to time with important notices. No marketing promotions will be sent without your consent.

03 Third Party Access

Only aggregated, anonymised data is periodically transmitted to external services to aid the Service Provider in improving the Application. The Service Provider may share information with third parties in the following circumstances:

  • As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process
  • When necessary in good faith to protect rights, safety, or to investigate fraud
  • With trusted service providers who work on the Service Provider's behalf, are bound by confidentiality, and do not have independent use of the information disclosed to them
  • Apple / Google — operate the app stores and have their own privacy practices
  • Expo / EAS — the platform used to build and distribute the app may collect technical telemetry data as part of standard infrastructure operation

04 Opt-Out Rights

You can stop all collection of information by the Application by uninstalling it. You may use the standard uninstall process available on your mobile device or via the app marketplace.

05 Data Retention Policy

The Service Provider will retain any automatically collected data for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. If you would like any user-provided data deleted, please contact the Service Provider at tc.chalice@gmail.com and they will respond within a reasonable time.

06 Children's Privacy

The Service Provider does not knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13. The Application does not collect personally identifiable information from any user.

Parents and legal guardians are encouraged to monitor their children's use of the Application. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personally identifiable information, please contact the Service Provider at tc.chalice@gmail.com so the necessary actions can be taken.

07 Security

The Service Provider is committed to safeguarding the confidentiality of your information and provides physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information it processes and maintains.

Since your list data lives on your device, its security is also governed by your device's own protections — passcode, Face ID, fingerprint, and encryption. Keeping your software up to date is strongly recommended.

08 Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Stop all data collection by uninstalling the Application
  • Request deletion of any user-provided data by contacting the Service Provider
  • Contact the Service Provider with any privacy concern and receive a response within 30 days

09 Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The Service Provider will notify you of any changes by updating this page with the new policy. You are advised to consult this page regularly, as continued use of the Application is deemed acceptance of all changes.

10 Your Consent

By using the Application, you are consenting to the processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy, now and as amended from time to time.
